Massage Therapy

Hespeler Physiotherapy provides the following massage therapy services:

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. The therapy relaxes contracted muscles, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulates the stretch reflex in muscles.

Fascia is the soft tissue component of the connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. This soft tissue can become restricted due to psychogenic disease, overuse, trauma, infection, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and corresponding diminished blood flow.

Although fascia and its corresponding muscle are the main targets of myofascial release, other tissue may be addressed as well, including other connective tissue.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.

Hot Stone Massage

During this specialty massage, the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extention of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly.

Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Yoga Massage combines rhythmic motion, gentle stretching, energy line work, and assisted yoga postures in a therapeutic experience like no other. This full body massage is conducted on a specially designed mat on the floor while you are fully dressed in comfortable clothing. No oils are used. During a session you relax as you are moved into various stretches that help to tone and revitalize your muscles and improve circulation. Every massage is tailored to your needs and, while some of the poses may look a little beyond what you think you're capable of, most people are amazed by just what their body can do when given the chance. You do not need to have practiced yoga or be very flexible to receive maximum benefits. In fact, over time, with regular massage you can become much more flexible and limber than you imagined and you will be amazed at how much better your body feels. It is a wonderful way to help promote relaxation and stress reduction. Thai Yoga Massage is one of the best things you can do for your own well being.
